(SEOUL) — Tottenham Hotspur (England), which is set to part ways with “goal machine” Harry Kane, has reportedly identified Iranian international striker Medhi Taremi (Porto) as a new partner for Son Heung-min up front.
“Tottenham have made contact with Porto striker Medhi Taremi,” Sky Sports Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marchio wrote on social media on Friday (June 5), adding, “Tottenham have offered a transfer fee of €24 million ($34.5 billion), but Porto want €30 million ($43.1 billion) for the player.”
The 31-year-old Iranian international striker, who has scored 36 goals in 68 A-match appearances, joined Porto in August 2020 and has scored 80 goals in 147 official matches in three seasons.
After scoring 31 goals in 51 official matches last season, Taremi scored 22 goals in the regular season to lead the Portuguese Primeira Liga in scoring in the 2022-2023 season. Porto finished runner-up in the Primeira Liga last season.
He was also a standout in last season’s UEFA Champions League, scoring five goals and adding two assists in seven games to help his team reach the round of 16. Porto lost to Inter Milan (Italy) in the round of 16 and failed to advance to the quarterfinals.
Taremi can play as a frontline striker, a shadow striker, and a left winger, making him a favorite to fill Kane’s shoes and prompting Tottenham to enter talks with Porto.

Taremi has already been the subject of interest from Inter Milan, Manchester United, and Arsenal (among others).
He particularly made his presence felt at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he scored two goals (including one from the penalty spot) in Iran’s 2-6 defeat to England in the first round of Group B play.
Tottenham, who are in a last-minute tug-of-war with Bayern Munich (Germany) over Kane’s transfer, are also interested in signing Taremi to fill the void left by Kane.
Tottenham, who are set to receive more than €100 million for Kane’s transfer fee, would literally have a ‘surplus’ if they were to sign Taremi for a ‘quarter of the price’.
